Students recently went on a field trip to the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, CT. At the beginning of the 20th century, Miss Florence Griswold’s boardinghouse became America’s most famous summer art colony. While on the trip, students visited the historic boardinghouse, toured the photography exhibit at the Krieble Gallery and explored the hand-crafted faerie homes that were on display as part of the annual Wee Faerie Village event. Students also got to paint in the style of the impressionists in their studio space right on site. Fun was had by all!
BHS Starts to Settle In and Personalize
Construction is finally over at BHS and students/staff are excited to personalize and make the building their own. With the start of a new school year, there was a buzz in the cafeteria about four new large paintings and a clay mosaic. These works were created by 5 AP Studio Art students at the close of last school year and installed over the summer.
The paintings are 48” x 72” and are inspired by the Renaissance work of Giuseppe Arcimboldo (1527-1593) best known for portraits made from produce, flowers, twigs and the like. One of his series of work is the four seasons. Below are Giuseppe’s seasons aligned with last year’s AP Studio Art Drawing/Painting students Gabriel Dombrowski, Donald Roski, Noah Neault and Annalise Gormley’s work.
The Berlin red coat mascot mosaic was designed and built by last year’s AP Studio Art 3-D student Hannah Schulz and also follows the theme of fresh produce.
Here’s to the start of another great year at BHS!BHS AP Studio Art Work:
